We care about your privacy almost as much as we care about clean litter boxes. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it from turning into a digital hairball.

What personal data we collect and why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture (if any) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. We love cats, not creeps, so please be careful what you upload.

Contact forms

When you contact us (for example, to ask a question or book a service), we collect the information you provide—typically your name, email address, phone number, service address, and message.

We use this information to:

  • respond to your inquiries,

  • schedule and provide our services, and

  • keep records of litter box history, in case we need to reference what we did before.

We keep these messages for routine business records and customer service.

Accounts (if enabled)

If we ever allow user accounts on the site and you register, we store the personal information you provide in your user profile. You can see, edit, or delete most of this information at any time (except your username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Orders & payments

Right now, payments are usually arranged directly with you (for example via Zelle or Venmo). If and when we accept payments online:

  • We will collect the information needed to process your booking or purchase (such as name, email, billing details, and service address).

  • Payments may be processed by third-party providers such as your bank, Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, or another payment processor.

  • We do not store your full payment card number or bank login information on our servers. Those details are handled by the payment provider under their own privacy policies.

Cookies

Our site uses cookies (small text files stored on your device) to make things run more smoothly.

  • If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.

  • If you visit our login page (if we have one), we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

  • When you log in, we set several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks. If you log out, the login cookies are removed.

  • If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited; it expires after one day.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Just remember: blocking some cookies may affect how the site behaves (kind of like skipping scooping day).

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, maps, posts, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you visited the other website directly.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website. We don’t control what those third parties do, so please review their privacy policies.

Analytics (Google Analytics & Search Console)

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Search Console to understand how people find and use our website so we can improve it (for example, which pages are most helpful and whether people are actually searching for “cat litter cleaner” like we hope).

  • Google Analytics may collect information such as pages visited, approximate location, device type, browser type, and time spent on the site.

  • IP addresses may be processed in a way that helps us see general traffic patterns but not identify you personally.

  • We use this information to improve our content and services—not to follow you around the internet.

Security & spam protection

We may use security and anti-spam services (such as Akismet, reCAPTCHA, or similar tools). These services may process information like IP addresses and browser details to help us detect spam, bots, and other unwanted behavior. It’s like a bouncer for our comment section, minus the velvet rope.

Who we share your data with

We share your data only with:

  • service providers that help us run this website and our business (hosting providers, email service providers, analytics providers, payment processors, etc.), and

  • professionals we may work with for legal, accounting, or IT/security needs.

They are only allowed to use your information to provide services to us and must protect it appropriately.

If you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email for security reasons.

We do not sell your personal information.

How long we retain your data

  • Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This helps us recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

  • Contact form entries: We generally keep contact form entries and related email correspondence for as long as needed for customer service, record-keeping, and to improve our services (typically several years, unless you ask us to delete them and we are not required to keep them).

  • User accounts (if any): For users that register on our website, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile for as long as the account is active.

  • Order/booking records: If you hire us or purchase something, we keep related records as long as needed for accounting, tax, and legal obligations.

Analytics data may be retained for the period configured in Google Analytics and Search Console.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to:

  • receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us; and

  • request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.

This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes (for example, basic invoices or records of services performed).

If you are a California resident, you may have certain additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA, including the right to:

  • know what categories of personal information we collect,

  • request deletion of your personal information (with some exceptions), and

  • not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

We do not sell personal information. If we ever start using personal information for targeted advertising, we will update this policy and provide any required “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” options.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your state, province, or country, depending on where our service providers operate.

Children’s privacy

Our services and website are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it. Kittens are welcome on the site—kids’ data is not.

How we protect your data

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including:

  • HTTPS encryption on our website,

  • access controls and passwords for administrative tools, and

  • keeping software reasonably up to date.

Like a litter box, privacy works best with regular scooping, so we periodically review our practices and tools.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and update the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the revised policy.
